Enter to learn, go forth to SERVE!
Acts 20:35
I have shewed you all things how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
This verse reminded me of a quote one of my teachers said that I really liked. He said on the sign for BYU it says "Enter to learn, go forth to serve" NOT "Enter to learn, go forth to earn!" I think often we get caught up in thinking about our future jobs and incomes that we forget why we really are here at the Lord's University. BYU is here so we can go out and be of service to the world and I think all too often we dismiss this important reality.

I think that is a great thought your teacher told you. I agree that we must continue to serve those with the knowledge which we gain. We are empowered by our knowledge, and we need to help lift those around us either spiritually or physically.
I think we might of had the same professor Rebekah! :) Although the phrase didn't come to mind when I read this, but I like the connection to it.
I also think of Christ's example of service. We should have a willing heart to serve others and not seek for something in return or not do it to glory in ourselves. I like the comment that Kyle left.
Today we talked a lot about service in Church, and someone made a comment about how whenever we go Visiting Teaching, we always ask if people need anything hoping that they say no. Often, we think we are too busy for service, but what we really should be doing is putting things in perspective: Serving is more important than earning.
I really liked your post, often times I do feel as if we become to focused on going to school to make money and we forget why we are really at BYU...to go forth and serve not only our families, but all those around us. I really think that it is a lot more noble to have the welfare of others in the forefront of our minds rather than personal gain.
I agree with what is said. I think that it is important to learn as much as we can in this life not just to help ourselves but to help others as well. Thats what a good brother or sister does.
