Always Be Zealous in a Good Thing

Galatians 4: 18
But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing

In the Topical Guide-- Zeal, Zealous says "(see also diligence; earnest; fervent; initiative)"
I had never really thought of the word "initiative" before when thinking about being zealous. I think this is interesting because as righteous Latter-day Saints, we need to be willing to take initiative in helping others and doing what's right. We need to be willing to stand up for what we belief and reach out to our fellow man. We should also always be actively involved in doing good. I know from personal experience that as I reach outside myself, I feel much happier and more joy in my daily life.

I really like your Statment.
It makes me think of a quote I read once. "Never doubt what a small group of people can do to change the world, for truely it is the only thing that ever has"
I think that is wonderfuly impowering to remember that we can do so much good in the world if we will put ourselves out there and do as we feel and not as we think is acceptable to those around us but rather to what is acceptable to God.

I like how you single out being zealous as taking the initiative. Whenever I think of zeal, I think about Hugh Nibley's article "Zeal Without Knowledge," which talks about the duality of heart and mind in the gospel. But, I think acknowledging that zeal can also mean taking the initiative really adds new depth to our responsibility as Latter-day Saints. We are created to act, and not to be acted upon, and that action involves initiative and goodness.
