Walk the walk and Talk the talk

Don't be a hypocrite- the way you live your life should be a testimony of the words you speak.

19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the aform of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 Thou therefore which teachest another, ateachest thou not thyself? thou that bpreachest a man should not csteal, dost thou steal?
22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit aadultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou bcommit csacrilege?
23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

Be Thou an Example

"The Apostle Paul provided sound counsel to guide our performance: 'Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity' (1 Timothy 4:12).

"Remember that the mantle of leadership is not the cloak of comfort, but the robe of responsibility. Accountability is not for the intention but for the deed. You must continue to refuse to compromise with expediency. You must maintain the courage to defy the consensus. You must continue to choose the harder right, instead of the easier wrong."

Thomas S. Monson, "Three Gates to Open," CES Fireside for Young Adults, Jan. 14, 2001

I love that quote by President Monson. There are so many people in life that shun church callings for fear of the responsibility that it would hold them accountable of. I remember being told growing up that I shouldn't hope to one day be an apostle as much as I should hope to live worthy to hold the mantle of whatever church calling God has in store for me. We should live our lives ready to act and do whatever the Lord would need us for. Elder Oaks came to the MTC in Sao Paulo while I was there and he explained that we need to be like a good pen always ready to write out the will of God.

I love the end of this quote the most, "you must continue to choose the harder right, instead of the easier wrong." So many times the world around us thinks it better to choose the easier way, and as members I think we impress people when we choose the harder way because we know it's right. I hope we continue to choose the harder right and lead by our actions.
