Arise and Go

Acts 9:10-11 teach an interesting lesson. Ananias hears the Lord call and his response is quick, "behold, I am here, Lord". Ananias is instructed of the Lord to go find Saul who was persecuting the saints and cure him of his blindness. He then responds, "he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name"(vs 14). It is almost as if he is simply reminding the Lord that if he goes he could be thrown in prison or worse. Nevertheless, "Ananias went his way, and entered into the house" and did what was required of him. (vs17) Even though he knew the dangers of his task Ananias was willing to do whatever was asked of him. He believed, like Peter , that it was better to "obey God rather than men".

It impresses me how quick he responded. He did not waste time but straightway left his home and went to Saul. A similar story is found in the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 17:7-8 where the Lord speaks to Nephi and instructs him to "get into the mountain" and immedietly Nephi did. I could just imagine if the Lord came to me after I had just woke up and said go up to the top of the Y and pray. I think that it would be hard for me just to do that but when the Lord tells us something it is always best to react as soon as we can. The Lords time may not always be the most convenient for us but if we obey we will always be better off.

I agree with you. I have always thought about how our lives today are so much different then that of the pionners. I find my self often thinking, I could march accross a desert and do all that physcal work for the lord, because that is more my thing. But then my wife brought up a goood point. They suffered in alot of the same ways as we do but to a much greater extent with the physical work all on top of it.
The command to leave your home, to me is not so bad, but the command to buiry your child and keep going. I don't know if I could do it and not become bitter.
I agree we should arise and go
