True shepherd

We have been entrusted with talents, callings and responsibilities that we must “watch over”.

Acts 20:28-30
28 ¶ Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the aflock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you boverseers, to feed the cchurch of God, which he hath purchased with his own dblood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing shall agrievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking aperverse things, to bdraw away disciples after them.

As we take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ and become members of His church we receive the responsibility to watch over our “small flocks”. This reminds me of the talk given this last conference priesthood session where we were commissioned to “lift where we stand”. We have been entrusted with talents, callings and responsibilities that we must “watch over”.

I've have always been fascinated with the comparison of Christ to a shepherd. When I took the first half of New Testament I had to write a research paper and I chose to research about shepherds and their relationship with their sheep. It is amazing how much love a shepherd shows for his sheep and how much his sheep trust him. In researching I even discovered that sheep know their shepherd's voice.

I really enjoyed your post because often I only think of myself as being a sheep and forget that I need to be a shepherd as well.

I really enjoyed your post to because I think that we focus a lot in the Church on lifting others (which Gordon B. Hinckley encouraged - if we would lose ourselves in service, we would also grow), but I also like the reminder that we need to cultivate our gardens and perfect ourselves. That is a great reminder.
